Abstract | Designed to assist teachers and supervisors in the implementation of the global history course, this bulletin presents learning activities which include the rationale, performance objectives, and teaching strategies related to Theme VI entitled, "Nineteenth Century Imperialism Affected the Imperial Powers and the Colonies." This theme has seven subthemes: (1) Imperialism Is Dominance of One People or Country over Another; (2) Britain Gained Control of India by Divide-and-Conquer Tactics; (3) Imperialism in China Took Several Forms, among Which the Policy of Spheres of Influence Was the Most Widespread; (4) Lack of Political Cohesion Opened Africa to Imperialism; (5) Japan Modernized and Became an Imperial Power; (6) English Conquest and Control of Ireland Had Much in Common with the "New" Imperialism; and (7) Imperialism Had Negative and Positive Effects on the Colonizer and the Colonized. Included is a suggested calendar of lessons as a guide for teaching global history on a daily basis. (KWL) |
