Abstract | In terms of learning, behaviour and attendance (LBA) issues, the introduction of a school management information system (SMIS) in a vocational high school, located in a mainstream socio-economic neighbourhood had a noticeable impact on the interrelations between principal and parents. Principal-parents interrelations in general, but participation in the case of parents with children having LBA problems, became more formative in nature, more frequent and more productive. Improved communication, understanding and trust between parents and the principal were observed. Cooperation between home and principal increased. Principal's status rose in parents' eyes. Implications for the principal's work are discussed, including a recommendation that principals should be cognizant of SMIS and trained to use it as a tool for developing and monitoring school-parents interelations.
