Abstract	This report examines the internationalization of the U.S. higher education system through text and through statistical data presented in 56 tables and approximately 110 figures. The report is based on a survey of 2,743 accredited colleges and universities in the United States. Chapters have the contents: (1) overall foreign student enrollments; (2) foreign student totals by region, by country, and by level; (3) understanding international student mobility by considering the "push," considering the "pull," and putting the "push" together with the "pull"; (4) foreign student totals in U.S. regions and states; (5) distribution, within the United States of foreign students from certain countries compared to distribution of recent immigrants from the same countries; (6) primary sources of funding and estimated expenditures of foreign students; (7) foreign student enrollments by institutional type; (8) academic and personal characteristics of foreign students; (9) foreign students in Intensive English Language Programs (IELPs); and (10) number and activities of foreign scholars on U.S. campuses. Appendices list foreign student enrollment by institution, foreign IELP enrollment by institution, and foreign scholars by institution. (JDD)
