Abstract | This manual is designed to help the Latino community in its work of incorporating young people into disease prevention efforts and health education. It provides basic information on 12 health themes along with suggestions and resource materials for the instructor. The young people trained through this manual may work in a number of education and prevention activities, including helping in clinics, giving educational talks, serving as counselors in schools and community sites, and helping in a variety of other ways. The 12 themes are: (1) "Introduction to the Course"; (2) "The Clinic" (introduction to clinic procedures and policies); (3) "Vital Signs" (what they are and how to record them); (4) "HIV, AIDS, and Sexually Transmitted Diseases"; (5) "Reproductive Health"; (6)"Nutrition and Exercise"; (7) "Abuse of Harmful Substances"; (8) "Mental Health"; (9) "Immunizations"; (10) "Pregnant Adolescents"; (11) "Sexual Violation" (rape and sexual aggression); and (12) "Health Careers."
