Abstract | The rapid rise of the information technology industry, with its need for highly skilled technicians, programmers and support personnel, has accelerated the demand for education and technology training throughout the world--and has accelerated the rise of credentialing and certification programs. Two affiliate councils of the American Association of Community Colleges--the National Council for Occupational Education and the National Council for Continuing Education & Training have been proactive in advancing discussion on the topic. Two invitational colloquia were held with representatives of business, education, governmental and regulatory agencies, and other interested stakeholders coming together to discuss differing perspectives and how community colleges fit in the mix. In this article, the author described his observations on the colloquium. The author also listed several recommendations for community colleges on a local and national level. (ERIC). |
