Abstract | This guide contains information and lesson plans for use in teaching students the importance of developing and maintaining a healthy diet. The lessons are primarily for use in fourth-grade classrooms, but portions of the lessons are appropriate for more advanced age groups. Each lesson plan is accompanied by worksheets and activities planned to help students better understand the importance of including wheat foods in their diet. Included are lesson plans and answer keys on: (1) The Wheat Plant; (2) Digestion and Wheat Nutrients; (3) Where's the Wheat: How To Read Food Labels; (4) Eating for Life: the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Guide Pyramid and Dietary Guidelines; and (5) Cooking with Wheat. Some lesson plans also include resources for further information, recipes, and instructions for crafts projects using bread dough. (MAH) |
