Abstract | The Child Care Policy Directorate has responsibility within the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety for the development and review of policy and legislation relating to the health and social care of children and young people in Northern Ireland. The Directorate aims to ensure that a broad policy and operational perspective is brought to the development of child care services in Northern Ireland, including child protection, fostering, domestic and intercountry adoption, residential care, secure accommodation and leaving and after care. This article aims to provide an up to date guide to the current legislation and associated guidance that family and child care practitioners should be aware of. In addition to legislation and guidance, there is a list of reports and standards developed by the Social Services Inspectorate. (ERIC). |
