Abstract | Curriculum Materials Centers (CMCs), resource centers that support teacher education programs, are facing many challenges, including maintaining funding, meeting increased expectations, and coping with changes in technology. This volume covers a wide range of management issues from the perspective of 18 librarians, including practical advice on budgets, collection development, effective access, virtual collections, outreach and public relations, and collaborative activities, among others. The following chapters are included: (1) "Professional Education" (Scott Walter); (2) "Curriculum Materials Centers Budgets" (Mike Tillman); (3) "Paying the Piper and Retaining a Tune Worth Dancing to: Balancing Funding Sources and the Collection Development Process" (Judith M. Hildebrandt and Peggie Partello); (4) "K-12 Textbooks Series Sets in CMCs: Collection Development and Management Issues" (Lorene R. Sisson and Allison G. Kaplan); (5) "Criteria for Selection and Deselection of CMC Materials, Both New and Donated" (John Hickok); (6) "Providing Effective and Efficient Access to Curriculum Materials" (Gary Lare); (7) "Management Tools for Maintaining a CMC Virtual Collection" (Patricia O'Brien Libutti); (8) "Collection Development for CMC Reference Materials" (Peter Cupery, Lori Delaney, and Bernie Foulk); (9) "Information and Instruction Services in CMCs" (Adelaide Phelps and Jeneen LaSee-Willemssen); (10) "Collaborative Activities with Faculty: Grant Writing, Action Research, and Scholarly Activities" (Martha Henderson); (11) "Outreach and Public Relations in CMCs" (Harriet Hagenbruch); and (12) "Technology and the CMC" (Judith Walker). A selective annotated bibliography is also included. This book is intended to assist librarians involved with CMCs and teacher education programs to more effectively meet the information and technology literacy needs of both teachers and teacher educators.
