Abstract | This report describes a project which examined special education teacher stress and burnout during the trainee (N=358) and inexperienced teacher (N=357) periods. The project's two goals were: (1) documentation of the relationships among teacher background, preparation, organizational variables, and occupational stress and burnout variables through trainee and beginning teacher levels, as each is related to role conflict and role ambiguity; and (2) identification of the interrelationships among these variables within and across years. Most of the document consists of appendixes, including the following published and unpublished papers: "Variables Related to Stress and Burnout in Special Education Teacher Trainees and First-Year Teachers" (Michael Fimian and Linda Blanton);"Stress, Burnout, and Role Problems among Teacher Trainees and First-Year Teachers" (Fimian and Blanton); "A Longitudinal Analysis of Variables Related to Special Education Trainee and Teacher Stress and Burnout" (Fimian); "Unmet Needs, Role Problems, and Stress: Predictors of Occupational Burnout among New Teachers" (Fimian and Philip Fastenau). Additional appendixes include a mockup of the information sent to each survey respondent, samples of the machine scorable forms, and the computer program used to analyze the data. (DB) |
