Abstract | The purpose of this study was to inquire into the relation of intellectual and/or psycho-linguistic development and apparent improvement in other behavior factors such as affective and social behavior and development. Thus consideration is given to the second cybernetics (i.e. the concept of positive feedback or deviation-amplifying relationships in intellectual or psycho-linguistic development and its possible relation to affective and social behavior and development. A five-year experimental "pilot" program has been conducted for 40 three, four, and five-year-old children, half of whom are educationally deprived. Use of the Edison Responsive Environment equipment was the mainstay of instruction for the acquisition of skills leading to reading, typing and number concepts. Participation was voluntary up to 20 minutes a day. Pre-post change scores revealed that training had a great impact on the development of psycho-linguistic abilities. Furthermore, favorable results have been obtained in children with multiple behavior disorders. There was improvement on behavior factors other than intellectual achievement. (Author) |
