Abstract | Explores whether too few students will pursue doctoral degrees by examining surveys of graduating seniors made in 1982, 1984, and 1989 at certain selective private institutions and by analyzing student and institutional characteristics. Debt does not inhibit graduate school attendance, but certain individual and institutional characteristics significantly affect rates of progression. (14 references) (MLH) |
