Abstract	"Data Trends" reports present summaries of research on mental health services for children and adolescents and their families. The article summarized in this "Data Trends" describes child maltreatment prevention programs designed to increase protective factors and decrease risk factors in families who may otherwise succumb to child abuse and neglect. When measuring the effectiveness of such programs, it is important not only to measure outcomes, but also to consider the completion rates of participants, as participation is an essential component of program dissemination. The article examines factors related to program completion among families enrolled in a child neglect preventive intervention. Results indicate that both caregiver mental health and contextual factors predict program completion of a community-based intervention aimed at preventing child neglect. This study demonstrates that clients with complex and difficult problems can complete preventive services, especially if the program is of a manageable length and there is a strong positive relationship between program staff and participants. Caregiver stress levels and substance use did not significantly predict service completion. Future research should compare the community-based, individually tailored aspects of this program to other, less client-centered interventions to see which additional program characteristics predict completion among high-risk participants.
