Abstract | The Student Library Aide Program provides real-world work experience to students in a safe learning environment. Students who are interested in working in the library complete an application form similar to a real job application listing their classroom teachers as references, telling why they want to work in the library, and any experience they think will be helpful to them as a library aide. In this article, the author, as a library media specialist, describes how did the library become a "cool" place to work for student library aides. Students who work in the library learn independence, responsibility, the value of helping others, and the importance of being trusted. Yes, it is "cool" to work in the library. (ERIC). |
