Abstract | The present paper explores two aspects of independent music teachers' views and practices: (a) their views on the importance of self-regulation and (b) how they use tools available on mobile devices to enhance their students' learning. A survey involving 1,468 Canadian teachers revealed that most teachers are comfortable using digital technology. Further, many value the use of digital tools to enhance student self-regulation. However, while some teachers embrace these technologies for music teaching, there are others who firmly resist using digital tools in music lessons. Both types of responses are explored in the present paper.
