Abstract | This article offers a cross examination of the use of history textbooks in high schools by teachers and students. Two recent pieces of research from Quebec shed light on the scarce data about the effective modalities for the use of textbooks. The results from the questionnaires answered by 81 teachers and 575 students suggesting that the textbook retains a reference and neutrality status, while serving mostly as an illustration. The historical method is poorly exercised in relation to the use of the textbook by teachers and students. |
