Abstract | Within the last 15 years upper secondary vocational education in Baden-Württemberg has developed rapidly. The Upper Secondary Vocational Schools in the field of Technology are the fastest growing part of the vocational schooling system in Baden-Württemberg. Nowadays about 30 percent of all students graduating from a school in Baden-Württemberg achieve full Abitur-Standard as a German university entrance qualification and are thus better prepared for science- and technological studies. Upper Secondary Vocational Schools are especially popular among students from non-academic families and 10 percent of the students attending an upper secondary vocational school have a background of migration. Baden-Württemberg as a center of upper secondary education within Germany makes up for one third of the students concentrating on the special field of technology. These students fascinated by modern technologies are well prepared for future challenges in science and technology. In this publication the author shall illustrate how the expansion of Upper Secondary Vocational Schools in general and especially in the field of technology contributes to a growing ability to enter advanced technological and scientific studies at university.
