Abstract | To transform education one must examine schools as social systems that are interrelated with families, communities, and the world of work. The issues that unite these social systems include equity, learning, curriculum, pedagogy, and authority relations within schools and between schools and society. ... We have organized this book in four thematic sections: Section 1 'Conditions for Educational Opportunities' , hase five chapters, each of which addresses critical issues of educational access from different perspectives. Section 2 is 'Changing Definitions of Education' composed of five chapters that view education through new conceptual lenses. Section 3 'Learning and Assessment' ... deals with the central issues related to the improvement of student learning. Section 4 ... examines 'New Strategies for Solving Educational Problems.'
