Abstract | This, the third of three reports on a study of returning students attending Toronto Secondary Schools during the 1977-1978 academic year, provides indepth information about a sample of returning students and their non-returning counterparts on the following topics: (1) student characteristics; (2) circumstances surrounding leaving school; (3) information about employment and unemployment; (4) feelings about working; (5) relationship of school to work; (6) what students learned while out of school; (7) other activities while out of school; (8) thoughts about the future; (9) returnees' feelings about returning to school; and (10) non-returnees' thoughts about returning to school. For the 199 returning students and 95 non-returning students in the sample, the telephone interview schedules were identical except for questions pertaining to the experience of returning to school. Responses to each of the questions are presented for both groups. For several questions, responses of the two groups are statistically compared to determine if the characteristics, opinions and experiences of returnees and non-returnees were similar or different. Summaires of 10 randomly selected interviews are also provided. (Author) |
