Abstract | This document is one of a series of student workbooks developed for workplace skill development courses or workshops by Mercer County Community College (New Jersey) and its partners. Designed to improve the English speaking and reading skills of non-English-speaking automotive component parts line operators, the course covers oral, written, reading, and comprehension skills. Grammar and spelling rules are taught, and reading passages are read and discussed. Writing assignments stress review or extensions of the concepts presented, and students are also asked to write sentences dictated to them. The materials for the 75-hour course include the following: a course outline; objectives; a topical outline; a curriculum outline; suggested references; vocabulary; and 16 lessons for English as a Second Language. Lessons consist of objectives, information, and exercises. Topics covered include understanding and applying directions, verb tenses, spelling, punctuation, clauses, adverbs, and adjectives. (KC) |
