Abstract	Based on the hypothesis that high school students in southwestern Missouri are generally dissatisfied with their high school experience, this research project gathered data from 884 two-part opinionnaires distributed to students in grades 9 through 12. In addition to questions relating to demographic data, 19 items were included in the opinionnaire concerning school and classroom atmosphere, teacher behaviors, and student behaviors and beliefs regarding school and studying. The findings indicate a relationship between students' self-perceived academic success and their evaluation of the high school experience: those students who rated themselves as "A" students also held positive attitudes towards school. All students found the high school atmosphere enjoyable, but many indicated that the classroom environment is boring. On the whole, the respondents were less positive in their evaluation of teacher personality and effectiveness. The students did not appear to value studying above other activities and tended to feel that schools have too many and unequally enforced rules. The mean of all items suggests that, generally, students have a favorable view of their high school experiences. (WD)
