Abstract | This report is an evaluation of the Law in a Free Society Project, initiated by the State Bar of California in 1971, as it neared completion of the first year of Phase II (1971-72). It is a partial report because all of the evaluation data had not been received and analyzed at the time the report was written. The following items are discussed in the report: (1) project objectives, (2) approach for achieving project objectives, (3) evaluation, (4) conclusion. The project goal is to develop and establish educational programs which will provide students with an understanding of the law, the purposes of the law, and the problems with which the law must deal. The program provides for the development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs regarding law, and our legal and political systems for students in grades K-12, teachers, school administrators, and selected community groups. The project is to be accomplished in three phases over a 6-year period. Phase I (1 year) involved the initial planning of the program; Phase II, (3 years) the development of the program; and Phase III, (2 years) the implementation and dissemination of the program. Names and positions of members of the executive committee are provided. (Author/RM) |
