Abstract | In order to provide an updated picture of Texas community and junior college library instruction programs and practices, this study gathered information describing library instruction practices during the 1985-86 academic year. Data were collected by means of a survey designed to elicit the following information: (1) name and address; (2) group instruction activities; (3) individual instruction activities; (4) program documentation; and (5) financial support. The survey was mailed to 79 community, junior, and two-year technical colleges in Texas, and a 43% response rate was achieved. Survey findings are discussed for the areas of group instruction (library orientation tours, separate lectures, informal group instruction, formal library courses, other group instruction, and subject areas for instruction); individual instruction (workbooks, audiovisual programs, computer-assisted instruction, handouts, and other individual instruction); program documentation; and financial support. A ranked percentage summary of user education activities is provided, and statistical data are presented in seven tables. References are included as well as copies of the survey questionnaire and a directory of user education programs in Texas community junior college libraries. (KM) |
