Abstract | Conclusion Developing and publishing Web sites is becoming almost trivially easy today, and there are many sites on the Web nowadays that purport to be instructional in one way or another. In many cases, however, we may question just how helpful those sites are to their intended users. Sites often include more glitz than substance, others try to force people through meaningless interactions, and yet others link indiscriminately to such vast quantities of information that no one could ever absorb it. The present model gives the designers of instructional Web sites a way to organize their design and to focus on what is truly instructionally useful. It is especially aimed at beginners, although the authors also find it valuable, when stuck on a part of a site, to return to the key question in the model: what information, interactions, and connections are needed here to help the learners reach the objectives? |
