Abstract | Listening to people complain about the hardships of winter and the dreariness of the nearly constant gray sky prompted the author to help her sixth graders recognize and appreciate the beauty that surrounds them for nearly five months of the year in western New York. The author opines that if students could see things more artistically, the winter would not seem so long and they would be happier adults when they grew up. It was with this simple thought that she and her students pursued winter landscape painting in their classroom and taught some adults a thing or two about vision. They began this lesson by examining large color landscape photos projected on her Smart Board. From start to finish, this project took nine one-hour classes. Though this project could be shortened, the author is glad they took their time, because the finished paintings were truly impressive. (ERIC). |
