Abstract | Teachers need to maintain a safe, healthy environment for all their students in order to promote learning. However, there are additional considerations when students require health care procedures, such as tube feeding or clean intermittent catheterization. Teachers must effectively monitor their students and understand their roles and responsibilities regarding performing these procedures. Teachers also play a vital role in teaching students to fully or partially participate in the performance of their own health care procedures in order to increase independence. Students' Individualized Health Care Plans can be used to communicate important information about students' health goals and handling common problems arising from their health care procedures.
