Abstract	The experience of trauma has an effect on how women experience pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. This article summarizes current research on perinatal posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), providing information about its prevalence, detection, diagnosis, and potential consequences for early parenting and infant well-being. The authors highlight the voices of women who have experienced trauma, illustrating the effect on their experiences as mothers, and provide an overview of current treatment models from medical, psychological, and infant mental health perspectives.
