Abstract | This study was designed to expand understandings about Filipino mothers' daily interactions with their infants and toddlers with and without disabilities. Qualitative procedures were used to analyze transcripts from structured, open-ended interviews with mothers of 10- to 26-month-old children. Three themes were used to characterize and compare mothers of children with and without disabilities. Similarities and differences emerged with respect to maternal roles during parent-child interaction, contexts of interaction, and sources of influence on interaction. Across themes, a cohesive cluster of responses also characterized descriptions of interactions among a subgroup of mothers whose children had the most significant, readily identifiable, disabilities.
