Abstract | In this article, the authors describe recent research on risk factors associated with adolescent mothers' mental health outcomes. They outline the consequences associated with three major risk factors that impact the teen mother's adjustment to her new parental role: lack of social support, caregiver stress, and feelings of low self-efficacy. The article concludes with specific recommendations in how school personnel can address the mental health and related needs of teen mothers. (Author). |
