Abstract | In this article, the author describes an experiment. One that came alive, grew in complexity, sprouted wings, caught updrafts and spiraled to reach a national audience with compelling personal stories of people living with HIV. The epicentre for this programme was a re-habilitation centre for intravenous drug users and female sex workers, many of whom are HIV positive. The centre is just outside the coastal city of Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh province, central Vietnam. The project was supported locally and by Family Health International (FHI), Viet Nam. From the first training a stone was thrown into a pond. It started as a simple idea to use creativity training to develop behaviour change, communication and risk reduction for a captive audience of high-risk individuals and centre staff and to increase their HIV knowledge. The ripples that began to radiate out were unexpected in both quality and quantity. They continue to this day. (ERIC). |
