Abstract | Introducing the exceptional child to prospective teachers, the author found power in directly addressing the meaning of loss and the teacher's offer of hope to all children. In this article, the author's practice with spina bifida and Downs syndrome children is summarized, along with her students' responses and strategies for helping them understand loss and become more caring educators.
