Abstract | Regardless of the definition or name given to wait time, the purpose of wait time is the same: to give all students the opportunity to participate in classroom discourse. In this article, the authors share: surprising research from the literature, going back more than 50 years; their own experiences in broadening their conception of wait time through classroom vignettes; benefits of using wait time for both teachers and students; and tips for others wanting to improve their use of wait time. This discussion can help teachers expand their views of wait time and experience a renewed motivation to implement it in their classrooms. (ERIC). |
