Abstract	Told through the lens of Malawi customs, culture, and taboos, the authors describe the life experiences and mental health needs of Pilirani, a young Malawi Slay Queen, and her children. The article reveals the adversities she faced, her dreams for her children, how she and her children fared, and what helped them at various junctures in their lives. Pilirani kept her deep-seated fears of HIV secret, but then found a way to share. The authors draw on the notion of "Ubuntu" ("I am because we are") to describe how peer support, trust, and sharing helped to address Pilirani's stigma, shame, and mistrust, and provide a pathway toward healing.
