AbstractProfessor of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) Robert DeKeyser is from the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Maryland. His research builds bridges between the theory of second language acquisition with major concerns in cognitive aspects such as implicit and explicit learning mechanism, age differences, and implications including grammatical development, instructed second language learning, and written corrective feedback. This interview with Robert DeKeyser addresses (1) how he became interested in SLA; (2) the challenges in doing SLA research; (3) where grammar explanation stands in second language teaching; (4) distribution of practice as a new approach in second language teaching; and (5) how he sees SLA research in the future.
