AbstractMuch of the research on uncivil behavior in the college/university classroom has focused on individual academic fields of study and been conducted at one, typically public, institution. This study examined perceptions of classroom incivility of faculty members (N = 166) from both public and private two- and four year institutions. The authors found that older, White faculty members with more years of teaching experience are more likely to consider these behaviors serious, and that faculty members who hold a higher academic rank (associate professors and professors) say they see these behaviors more frequently. Suggestions for reducing classroom incivility and future research methods are explored. (As Provided).
