Abstract | The positive impact of healthy relationships on child development is widely accepted. A healthy relationship between mother and child is at risk when a mother experiences symptoms of birth-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Mothers of children with special needs are at high risk for this disorder and early intervention (EI) professionals are front-line service providers who can support mothers experiencing PTSD symptoms. This article explores the literature and presents research findings that suggest unmet needs for birth-related PTSD screening in EI settings exist. The authors present strategies and resources to support EI professionals in this work. (As Provided). |
