AbstractStream investigation and restoration projects offer unique experiential opportunities to engage students in outdoor learning experiences that are relevant to the communities in which they live. These experiences promote an understanding of watershed issues and establish positive attitudes and behaviors that benefit local watersheds and help to create environmentally literate citizens. In this article the authors describe a pilot program in which preservice teachers enrolled in a science teaching practicum course in the second semester of their professional course sequence partnered with classroom teachers in a local elementary school to provide students in grades 3 and 4 meaningful watershed educational experiences that met the mission of the Maryland Stream Initiative program and also met curriculum and learning goals for the preservice students.
