Abstract | Teaching empathy can be a means to teach multiple perspectives in the social studies classroom. Examining U.S. history through the lens of the pursuit of the "American Dream" will resonate with many high school students. This article suggests a framework using the theme of the "American Dream" of homeownership for a high school unit of study of civil rights. Looking at the pursuit of this dream through the characters in "A Raisin in the Sun" can help students develop empathy. (As Provided). |
