Abstract | For some time, the author has wanted her advanced 11th- and 12th-grade art students to not just create in the classroom, but also at home. When this was not achieved with standard sketchbook assignments, she decided to "spice up" their homework/sketchbook experience by having them create their own artists' journals. She got her idea from a book by Lynne Perrella and shared her own art journal as an example. Their creativity took off. This has become one of the author's favorite projects to do with her students, and it is an ongoing one throughout the entire trimester. The students who possess a truly creative soul take this assignment seriously, with each page becoming an experience, memory or feeling they have had in their lives put into artistic form. (ERIC). |
