AbstractIt may seem like stating the obvious to note that providing excellent instruction is a key priority at colleges and universities in the United States given the underlying educational mission of those institutions. However, over the past few decades, there has been a remarkable trend in these institutions towards baking greater intentionality into their teaching and learning functions. An essential step to refining an institution's underlying strategy for advancing teaching and learning excellence is to understand the models for instructor support at universities and how evidence about teacher practices and needs is used to inform those services. This paper outlines which units on campus have instructional support mandates and how those units typically engage with teachers both at their own institution and nationally. With a map pointing to where the care for college instruction is located, it becomes easier to identify areas of mutual interest between them. As many universities endeavor to improve their support service models, including through cross-unit coordination and collaboration, this paper is intended as a resource for those working on that mission.
