AbstractModern educational settings have been heavily integrated and dependent upon the use of technology. To keep up with the rigorous demands of Common Core State Standards, California schools have emphasized technology dependency to augment academic performance with today's schools. The purpose of the study focused on parental perception of technology integration. As students in early elementary struggle to meet the academic goals of standards with technology, understanding parental perception is pivotal in creating necessary changes to improve the efficacy of the technology. Because of the technology and learning components of the study, a connectivism learning theory approach was viable. This qualitative case study examined three research questions: parental perception of technology, the benefits of technology on language arts and mathematics, and the hindrances of technology on language arts and mathematics. The participants in the study were 12 parents of children in kindergarten through 2nd grade in a low socioeconomic area in Southern California. The findings in the study demonstrate that most parents were in support of technology use. However, numerous apprehensions became evident in both supporters and opposers. Parents identified benefits such as finger tracing, pronunciation, letter and number identification, and basic math skills. Respondents also identified technology as lacking in reading comprehension and the ability to retain the user's attention while learning mathematics. Data implies that parents understand the impact of technology at home; however, more research on additional factors contributing to successful academic performance is necessary.
