| Abstract | This dissertation explores the significant role of knowledge and engineering in shaping society, with a focus on the Enlightenment period's emphasis on science and its practical applications through engineering and technology. While recognizing the contribution of practical expertise and technoscientific awareness to societal progress, the dissertation argues that over-reliance on particular science and societal assemblages can result in narrow and biased perspectives in societies that depend on limited forms of knowledge and power. To address this issue, the dissertation emphasizes the need for educators to adopt a critical approach to education, examining the limited view of science and promoting a more inclusive understanding of initiatives like STEM education. Additionally, the dissertation examines the present-day impact of engineering practices on shaping society, with a particular focus on how engineers are trained and formed. Finally, the dissertation underscores the importance of a more critical, reflexive, and inclusive approach to engineering education and knowledge creation, including the application of Artificial Intelligence, to ensure that diverse perspectives and ideas are considered in the creation of solutions to societal challenges. Here I am motivated by the question of how engineering exists in contemporary society and how it influences our perceptions of human identity. I argue that our reliance on naming and measuring things that are otherwise invisible has created a situation where faith in a narrow field of science not only limits our understanding of phenomena but also creates a situation where we can more easily be remade. And I contend that the narrowing of our knowledge systems, despite the increasing progress of our technoscientific society, has made entities like Artificial Intelligence easier to create.
