Abstract | Although the gap in enrollment rates of Latinas in higher education has narrowed in recent years, there is still a staggering gap in the degree attainment rates for Latinas in higher education that only gets more and more discrepant as the level of higher education increases (PNPI, 2021). Studying the systemic inflexibilities that lead to attrition as well as the protective factors that aid in the successful completion and degree attainment of doctoral degrees for Latina graduate students will provide the foundation for a workshop that can be implemented from a strengths-based perspective at a university. This workshop is designed to acknowledge the strengths that have gotten these students this far in their educational journeys. It also offers first-generation Latina students entering graduate programs in mental health resources and reframing techniques that can serve as protective factors that take from their existing cultural capital and create community cultural wealth.
