Abstract | The purpose of this quantitative comparative research was to determine if and to what extent there was a statistically significant difference between physician assistant program faculty's (PAPF) and nurse practitioner program faculty's (NPPF) cultural awareness and sensitivity (CAS) and cultural competence behaviors (CCB), in the United States. The sample size was (N = 202). The theoretical foundation for this research was cultural competence and data was collected using the Cultural Competence Assessment instrument. Two research questions guided this study. The first question asked if there was a statistically significant difference between physician assistant program faculty's and nurse practitioner program faculty's cultural awareness and sensitivity. The independent-samples t-test was performed for the mean scores of CAS, M[subscript diff] = -0.047, 95% CI [-0.173, 0.079], t(200) = -0.736, p = 0.463, revealing no statistically significant difference in CAS between PAPF and NPPF. Therefore, the decision was made to fail to reject the null hypothesis The second research question asked if there was a statistically significant difference between PAPF and NPPF cultural competence behaviors (CCB). The independent-sample t-test was performed for the mean scores revealing M[subscript diff] = -0.135, 95% CI [-0.421, 0.151], t (200) = -0.932, p = 0.353. Therefore the decision was made to fail to reject the null hypothesis since there was no difference in the cultural competence behaviors between PAPF and NPPF). These findings contributed to the literature on healthcare provider faculty cultural awareness and sensitivity as well as their cultural competence.
