Abstract | The purpose of this qualitative study was to identify effective educational intervention that could improve educational outcomes for Black male students in K-12 schools. Studies revealed that Black male students have low graduation rates as compared to other subgroups of students. This study examined educational barriers in K-12 schools from the Shelby County School District in Memphis, Tennessee. The study examined what educators perceived to have affected educational achievement of Black male students from kindergarten through high school in Shelby County Schools. With an online questionnaire conducted in the 2019-2020 school year, educators responded to ten questions regarding intervention for Black male students in their schools. Educators identified strengths and weaknesses of the intervention process at their schools. Overall, most of the barriers reported by educators for Black male intervention was related to a lack of adequate school funding. This study suggested that to provide effective intervention for Black male students, adequate funding must be allocated for Black male intervention to improve equity, curriculum, instruction, and social and emotional learning.
