AbstractAll students must undergo the decision-making processes in choosing to attend college as well as selecting which college to attend. In making these decisions, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I student-athlete population encounters concerns that require investigation. The decision-making process involving the choice to attend college as well as where to attend is prevalent among all students, however the NCAA Division I student-athlete population experience additional sets of variables and concerns that require investigation. According to the 2016-2017 NCAA Division I Sport Sponsorship and Participation Rate Report, there were 182,152 total students-athletes with male athletes accounting for 53% of the participation. Arguably men's college basketball at the NCAA Division I level is one of the primary sports on college campuses in the United States. Analyzing factors that contribute to why male athletes selected a NCAA Division I institution and chose to remain at the school until graduation can contribute to understanding academic, interpersonal, and athletic factors. A qualitative method is used to gain insight from former male student-athletes. This insight pertains to the determining factors contributing to the selection of a specified NCAA Division I Conference. Additionally, factors are also studied contributing to their decision to graduate from the chosen institution leading to current gainful employment is also studied.
