Abstract | This research reports on a class of grade one students engaging with number concepts using the iPad application TouchCounts. It is theorized that students develop understandings of number based on a materially engagement with both social and material resources. Rhythm is the fundamental unit of analysis used to attend to student engagement with TouchCounts. A class activity as well as three students working together will be analyzed in terms of emerging rhythms. It is concluded that rhythm is an emergence of form, modeling and aligning with the mathematical notions of number. [For the complete proceedings, see ED583608.] (As Provided). |
