Abstract	The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Institute for Statistics (UIS) launched the joint Global Initiative on Out-of-School Children in 2010 to accelerate efforts towards the goal of universal primary education by 2015. The goal of the Initiative is to achieve a breakthrough in reducing the number of out-of-school children. A total of 61 million primary school-age children were out of school in 2010. This brief report presents the challenge and goal of the Out-of-School Children Initiative (OOSCI), along with a chart organized by region and country presenting statistics obtained from survey data and administrative data.
