Abstract | There is strong evidence that children benefit from the involvement of their fathers. Including fathers in appointments and meetings about their children with learning disabilities can give fathers a sense of being valued in their caring role and gives them a chance to contribute their ideas, which may be different from their partner's. It also eliminates the need for mothers to retain and repeat information to their partner. Furthermore, it enables the mother and father to build a common understanding of their child's needs. This brief guide describes the benefits of including fathers, arranging meetings so fathers can be there, and handling different fathers' responses. (ERIC). |
