Abstract | This article describes how the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) is changing the way the state's middle school students learn. MLTI is the largest education project in Maine's history, aimed at eliminating the digital divide by loaning a laptop to each seventh and eighth grade student and teacher in the state. The Initiative has put resources and learning at not only the fingertips of students, but also in many of the homes of Maine residents who might otherwise not have access to a computer. Teachers have noticed that students who might not attend to conventional teaching are eager learners when the laptops are used. Concluding this article are the Initiative's suggestions for successful implementation of a laptop program at a school. (ERIC). |
