AbstractIn 2006, it was determined that Maine's new community college system--off to a remarkably promising start--was already at a critical juncture: nearing or exceeding capacity in many of their most popular programs, straining facilities and the ability of staff to deliver high quality programs and services, and struggling to meet the demand of many key Maine industries for skilled workers. Governor Baldacci called for the appointment of an Advisory Council of leaders from the private sector, organized labor, and economic development to analyze Maine's current and future workforce needs and how Maine's community colleges could be best prepared to meet them. The result of their work--findings and recommendations on how Maine can strengthen its community colleges and, in the process, the future economic prosperity of the state--are presented in this report. Includes appendix. (Contains 6 figures, 1 table, and 33 endnotes.) [This report was produced by the Governor's Community College Advisory Council of Maine.] (ERIC).
